OctoMom

Oliver likes this octopus toy that plays a different tinny little song when you press each of its arms. Once you begin to build a little collection of musical toys, tables, stuffed animals and books, you begin to get a little crazy. You start humming the jazzy form of the ABC's on your lunch break. You sing about kitties and puppies going ring a round the rosie in the shower. And lest these little ditties become too repetative, you begin harmonizing with teddy bears, and dancing with the octopus.

After busting out a modified gangsta-rap dance at the dinner table, Michael said thoughtfully, "It kinda sounds like an eight-bit Nintendo game."

My toddlerized brain immediately thought of a cartoon Ninja-version of the octopus, performing underwater superhero martial arts on his sea anemone enemies.

"Nintendo!" I exclaimed. "That's a super-cute name for a toy octopus."
Michael looked at me as if I was the crazy one.

"Yeah, um....or eight-bit."

Okay, yeah, or eight-bit.
