Oh, no, it's not what you're thinking.
I'm referring to the fact that the most important baby-calming devices next to mothers and fathers themselves require Double-D batteries. In baby-fying our home prior to Oliver's arrival, Michael set himself to build various seating and sleeping options. He sat and unwrapped, put-together, matched-up, hammered-out, and screw-drivered until we had what looks like an infant amusement park.
Michael's satisfaction at completing these projects was always rudely and suddenly curbed when turning an "on" switch was met with silence. Where was the swinging? The bouncing? The birdie tweets? The swoosh-swoosh of the womb sounds?
Oh. That's right. It needs DD batteries. Great.
Like we have them lying around. They're never around, they're expensive, and you can't buy them in bulk to save money. They are bulk, they're huge. I just don't like them.
But they do lull our Ollie to sleep in the swing when he is teetering on the edge of gassy wakefulness and 3 hours of Mommy time. They assist in duping him to think that he is still being patted in our rocking arms when he is actually being placed in his pack&play vibrating bassinet, so we can put ourselves to sleep. .JPG)
Oh, all right. I guess they're not so bad.

Pack N Play bassinet with vibrator = heaven for parents! (Ok, baby, too...) :)
